How we source migration cost figures
Cost ranges on this site are based on public reference material across the relevant landscape. The publishers below are representative of the kind of source that informs our positioning, not an exhaustive extraction map per figure. A specific figure on a specific page is not necessarily anchored to a single named publisher.
Sources
- Cloud migration vendor public guidance. AWS Migration Hub published cost guidance, Azure Migrate Discovery and Assessment published pricing, Google Cloud Migration Centre published pricing. Each cloud's first-party migration guidance is one input; we treat it as a vendor-perspective input, not the only source.
- Public analyst migration research. Gartner Cloud TCO research, Forrester Total Economic Impact studies on cloud and ERP migrations, IDC migration cost benchmarks (where pricing context is published).
- Public migration-failure and overrun research. McKinsey published research on cloud migration ROI and overrun, Bent Flyvbjerg megaproject cost overrun applied to ERP migrations, Standish Group software project research applied to platform migrations.
- SI partner public day-rate guidance. Public day-rate disclosures from major SI partners (Accenture, Deloitte, Capgemini, Wipro, Infosys, TCS) where engagement-pricing is publicly disclosed, plus boutique cloud-migration firm published rates.
- Practitioner survey data. Public migration-cost surveys from r/devops, r/sysadmin AMAs, named-organisation post-mortems on completed migrations, and CSO Online / The Register industry coverage.
What we deliberately do not publish
- Vendor-private SI engagement values. Where a specific organisation's migration engagement value is known to us through public reporting, it is described in band terms only.
- Predictions of specific-migration cost. Calculator outputs are working bands. Migration cost depends on data quality, integration depth, change-management appetite and the buyer's negotiation position — none of which the calculator can fully model.
- Personal organisation data. Calculators run entirely in your browser. Your scope inputs are not transmitted, logged, or stored.
Update cadence
Site values update only when the underlying reality changes. Triggers:
- Major cloud provider migration-pricing-model change
- New Gartner / Forrester migration TCO research with material findings
- Material movement in published SI partner day rates over a 12-month sample
- New entrant publishing migration pricing materially below the existing band
Cosmetic date bumps are not made.
Editorial position
This site is operated by Digital Signet, an independent AI-development studio. Digital Signet does not run a migration practice, does not act as an SI partner or reseller, does not run a cloud-strategy consultancy, and does not accept paid placements from any cloud provider, SI or migration-tooling vendor. See /about for the operator and the wider network.
Editorial direction is set by Oliver Wakefield-Smith. Drafts are produced via Digital Signet's autonomous AI development methodology and reviewed against the editorial framework before publication.
